The FREE Digital Resource Every OT Should Be Using During Teletherapy

What if I told you that you only need ONE digital tool to make your teletherapy sessions fun and engaging for your entire caseload? And what if I told you that it’s 100% FREE and customizable?

Seems too good to be true, right?

Well, I assure that’s not the case! Let me fill you in on my best-kept teletherapy secret. It’s a tool that was an absolute lifesaver when we were all catapulted into teletherapy this spring. Every single one of my students was totally motivated by it, even those who normally resist handwriting practice or gross motor exercises.

Are you ready for it?

Okay, here it is…

……….

It’s the Wheel of Names digital spinner! This thing is MAGIC. There’s just something about the thrill of a colorful spinning wheel that keeps my students excited and motivated to complete each activity in our session.

In the video below, I’m going to break down for you exactly how to customize your own digital spinner to meet all of your therapy needs. Here we go:

1. Go to www.wheelofnames.com

When you first visit their website, you will be greeted by a default spinner. This can be completely customized to fit the needs of your session. I will forever be grateful for the creators of this website.

2. Customize your spinner

You can change just about any part of the wheel that you’d like. This includes:

  • Colors
  • Sounds
  • Spin speed
  • Text/symbols/images

You could use your digital spinner to address prewriting, handwriting, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, emotional regulation, and more! The possibilities are endless.

3. Save your spinner

The first way to save your custom spinner is to create a free account. After you’ve created your account, select the “Save” option from the top bar menu. Give your spinner a name, then click “Save”. You will then be able to access this spinner at any time from the “Open” menu.

If you prefer not to create an account, there is a second option for saving your spinner. First select the “Share” option from the top bar menu. From here you will be given the option to either restrict future edits to the wheel, or allow future edits to the wheel. I recommend the 2nd option so that you can make changes to it in the future if you wish.

After you make your selection, a link will be generated for your custom spinner. Copy the link and paste it into a document for future access, or send it to your fellow therapist friends! They’ll be sure to thank you for it.

That’s it, folks! My #1 teletherapy tool. I kinda love it more than Boom Cards.
